Delicious dish

Tonight show was all about getting into your comfort zone in terms of the audio selections this week, but things got exciting and awkward with my friend Hailey co-hosting the show.  Somehow we purely channelled Margaret Jo McCullen and Teri Rialto and resonated our own Delicious Dish vibes (SNL nerd alert!). We couldn't deny it so we just went with it. Possibly one of the best shows ever.  Enjoying what Sloow Tapes has been putting out lately.

No Canada

This week's show was somewhat of a Canada Day edition with some Nihilist Spasm Band to set things off.  However, I would have to say my favourite part of this show was how well the Paul Bowles piece worked layered against UUUUUU.  Layering spoken word with ambient/experimental sounds has been something I have done on the show before and it is always exciting to see how things work out in the live setting.  Paul Bowles was celebrated for his contributions as a composer and later as a writer and traveler who drew many other writers and artists to Morocco along with his wife, Jane.  Jane Bowles also tops my list as one of my favourite female authors.  You can find audio material by Paul Bowles, including what was played on the show, on ubu.com here completely for free.  Just to mention that "UbuWeb is a completely independent resource dedicated to all strains of the avant-garde, ethnopoetics, and outsider arts." The site offers an endless amount of material and is a great resource.

On the road edition part II

My favourite guy, Andy, decided to return the favour and visit Canada and New Directions as my co-host for the evening.  Of course he needed to see the CFMU vinyl archives and do a bit of digging through their record-filled walls.  We unearthed a couple of great Chrome records and started off the show with something from Alien Soundtracks.  Andy also selected a nice colab lp to play - Aaron  Dilloway and C Spencer Yeh's Squid LP as a pick from my own record collection.  Despite the nerves of doing it live we had a nice time and I hope he'll be back again soon.

Post-Vacation Relaxation

This week's show marks the return of New Directions after a three week hiatus while I was in Greece.  I snapped the picture of this cool calico under a rock near the top of the Acropolis in Athens.  Gripped the Aphrodite's Child (prog band formed by Vangelis) at a great store called Off the Record located in Piraeus.  Also played some of my favourite artists I was listening to during the trip.
